Point of Grace Christian Eagles

Recent developments have caused the school board to evaluate the POGC sport’s program. Specifically speaking, low enrolment in the 6th through 11th grades for the 2014-2015 school year and a desire by some parents for their children to participate in the Taylor County School District sport’s program. (State law allows private school students to participate in public school athletics for free, as long as no sports are offered at the private school.)

After much prayer and deliberation, we have decided to suspend the POGC sport’s program for the 2014-2015 school year. We understand that this decision will be objectionable to some. Please understand, this is a decision which was not taken lightly. The fact is, with our low enrollment numbers, a POGC sport’s program is not feasible for the 2014-2015 school year. The school board will evaluate the POGC sport’s program on an annual basis. Our goal will be to resume a sport’s program when the school enrolment and staff can sustain one in a proper manner. To this end, Crosspoint Baptist Fellowship has recently purchased 5.5 acres of property along West Julia Street and J Louque Drive with the intention of converting this into a sport’s field when the POGC sport’s program resumes.

Though this decision was not easy, we do feel this situation can benefit the school and your child’s education. Our recent on-line survey has indicated we need to focus our energies on Christ-centered values for both our teachers and students; in addition, we need to focus on providing your children a first-class education. We feel that suspending the POGC sport’s program, at this time, will allow us to more adequately focus on what we established our school for--providing a Christian-based, high-quality education in a safe and nurturing environment. Furthermore, we will make every effort to support the Upwards Sport’s program and the city recreation league sport’s program in an effort to accommodate those students who do not wish to participate in public school sports.

Our goal is to continually improve our school, provide your students with the best education possible and, most importantly, teach the Gospel of Christ. Constructive feedback and input is always welcome from parents and guardians. Please call the Crosspoint office (850-584-5445) for information on upcoming school board meetings, to schedule an appointment with the board, or to meet with the POGC Administrator. We ask for your continued prayers, understanding, patience, and support as we continue to strive towards growing our school to its full potential.
